Spanish uses a familiar Latin script and has many words that English speakers may recognise. The 12-month sequence below is an intensive planning example, not evidence that Spanish is the fastest language for every Indian learner or a guarantee of DELE B2 or fluency.
Your Advantages as an Indian Learner
Latin script — no new writing system
Spanish spelling is relatively regular, but learners still need rules for silent h, c/g, silent u in some combinations and regional pronunciation
Selected word histories connect Spanish with Arabic, Persian and South Asian languages; individual etymologies should be checked rather than treated as direct Sanskrit-to-Spanish borrowing
Spanish and English share many recognisable cognates, alongside false friends that need context
Published hour estimates are population- and programme-specific; use them only as a rough planning reference and reassess with practice-test results.
Month 1–2: A1 Beginner
Alphabet: learn ñ as a distinct letter; ch and ll are digraphs rather than separate modern alphabet letters
Pronunciation: practise r/rr, j, c/g and the commonly shared b/v sound patterns, with attention to regional variation
600 vocabulary words: numbers, time, family, routines, food, colors
Grammar: Articles (el/la/un/una), present tense -ar/-er/-ir verbs, ser vs estar (most critical distinction)
Month 3–5: A2 Elementary
1,500 total vocabulary words
Grammar: Pretérito indefinido (simple past), gerundio (-ando/-iendo forms like Hindi -raha), reflexive verbs
